Safeguarding

Key Information

WORKING TOGETHER TO SAFEGUARD OUR CHILDREN.

The staff and governors of New Invention Junior School recognises that the safety, welfare and care of children is paramount. We are therefore committed to the highest standards in protecting and safeguarding the children entrusted to our care at all times. Meeting this objective is done through providing a safe environment for our children to learn in and by identifying children who are suffering or likely to suffer significant harm and taking appropriate action, with the aim of making sure they are kept safe both at home and in the education setting. Adults in our school take all welfare concerns seriously and encourage children and young people to talk to us about anything that may worry them.

Our school's designated safeguarding leads are:

  • Mr A Pearson (Headteacher)
  • Ms M Sharratt (SMT/Care, Guidance & Support Manager)
  • Our deputy safeguarding leads are:
  • Mr R Bould (Deputy Head)
  • Mrs E Waterhouse (SENCO/Assistant Head)

If you have concerns about a child you can call the MASH team for advice on: 0300 555 2866. (*Multi agency safeguarding hub).

What Ofsted say:

"Safeguarding is a strength of the school. Parents and pupils value the care and support that their children receive."

"Leaders have created a strong culture of safeguarding. All staff and governors receive comprehensive training, including regular updates. The care and guidance manager checks that staff understand their responsibilities. Staff are quick to identify, and act on, any signs that a pupil might be at risk. As a result, the school is a safe environment for pupils, and they are always well cared for. Regular safeguarding newsletters are published on the school website. Governors frequently review safeguarding procedures and policies in order to ensure that they meet safeguarding requirements."

"Pupils say that they feel safe in school. Pupils are confident that their concerns and worries will be listened to. They know who they can speak to in school if they need support. Parents value the opportunities provided by staff to explore safeguarding issues, and they receive information about the high-quality support that their children receive."

What Parents say:

"My son joined new invention juniors with a range of special educational needs. As a complex child with autism, dyslexia and mental health difficulties he has been supported to integrate with his peers and develop coping strategies. He has been supported and stretched academically which has allowed him to thrive. The progress he has made has been beyond our expectations. With fantastic pastoral and academic intervention, he has developed into a confident and happy young man. As a child who struggled with social interaction and anxiety, Juniors has given him a range of skills and opportunities to put them into practice. I can't believe the confident young man that stands in front of me now is that same frightened little boy I dropped off at the start of year 3. I'm so grateful to juniors for the support they offered my son and to us as a family. The journey through education for SEND children and their families often feels like an uphill struggle. I'm so grateful to juniors for supporting and guiding us along the way and allowing my son to become the awesome person he is today."                                                                                                        Zoe Stuart
