Year 3 trip to Exotic Zoo

Year 3 had a very exciting trip to the Exotic Zoo in Telford on 16th and 17th April 2024. We got to get up close to lots of African animals as part of our animals, including humans topic and our Meerkats topic. We held millipedes, a Madagascan hissing cockroach, a spiney tailed lizard (which we learnt the proper Scientific name for: a Uromastyx!), a chameleon and a tenrec! We learnt lots of information and facts we will be able to use in our lessons back at school.

“My favourite animal at the zoo was the tenrec, it was so cute and cuddly”

“I really liked the rabbits and holding the animals. The Uromastyx lizard was very bumpy and spikey”

“The millipede felt really tickly on my hand. I learnt about how it eats and how it is part of a cycle to make more food”

Then we got to walk around the zoo and see all of the other animals. We were very excited to see some animals eating and some baby animals that had just been born.

“It was very cool and amazing. It was so funny when the lambs were trying to nibble my coat”

“I enjoyed seeing the snakes and stroking the goats. I learnt lots of facts about a cobra, I love snakes!”

After lunch and a quick trip to the gift shop to practise spending money, we headed to the Meerkat talk and learnt lots of new facts. Some the grown ups hadn't even heard before! We are going to use this information to write a non-chronological report in our English lessons.

“I liked feeding the rabbits. I really enjoyed the meerkat talk.”

We all had a fantastic visit and the children behaved beautifully. The staff were extremely impressed with their questions and the facts they had remembered from the talk. We look forward to sharing our work!
